The ceramics below are mostly cone 6 electric fired. I have fired cone 10 outdoors in a gas kiln the past two years, but haven't been very good about taking pictures. I built the propane kiln because we'd had an avalanche in Junuea that wiped out our supply lines to hydroelectric power, and the electric company had to burn diesel. The expense made firing with electricity no longer feasible. After spending the summer building the kiln and its shelter (I am in my 60's and getting pretty feeble at construction), I discovered that propane was also way expensive. Now I once-fire my ware, being especially careful every piece is totally dry so nothing will explode. Although I miss the ease of firing electrically, there are some benefits to my present firing routine. The glazes seem to fit the pots better, especially the crystalline glazes.
